This custom asphalt driveway has two coats of asphalt for industrial strength. The top coat was installed in one-shot on a warm summer day for an optimal finish.
Waterproofing repairs along the foundation of this home required this driveway to be completed in two phases. Watch this video to learn more.
Rather than cutting the old driveway down the property line, both neighbours agreed it was time to replace the driveway in its entirety.
The old asphalt on this property acted as a strong base layer for our asphalt resurfacing and saved the client from going over budget on this renovation.
This property demanded a driveway design that keeps movement in mind to accommodate this client's needs.
Interior renovations on this home caused the original driveway to experience wear and tear from heavy contractor use. Nothing like a fresh layer of asphalt to make the outside of this home look just as good as it does on the inside.
In collaboration with the landscaper on this project we laid a U-shaped driveway that met up seamlessly with their new interlocking bricks leading into the home.
We know...Potholes suck...
Potholes are a significant headache that costs Canadian drivers billions of dollars annually for vehicle repairs and maintenance.
A poorly maintained parking lot filled with potholes and cracks can damage your customers’ cars like bent rims, blown-out tires, or damage the vehicle's undercarriage.
But what causes potholes, and how can you deal with them? Read on to learn everything you need to know about potholes!
What Causes Potholes?
A few factors play into the formation of potholes, but the two key causes are water and temperature.
First, all roads have cracks and imperfections from wear and use. When snow or ice is on the road, the water can seep into these cracks or pits. This wears out the road and accelerates the decay.
But the real trouble happens when the temperature changes, particularly when the weather gets below freezing. When the water inside the crack freezes, it expands inside the crack. This causes the crack to widen and get worse.
And then, when the weather gets warm again, the second part of the equation comes into play. Warmer weather makes the water evaporate, which causes a gap that the pavement sinks into.
This entire process leads to the creation of those frustrating potholes. Some things can be done to fix or prevent potholes from happening as much, but it's nearly impossible to stop them completely without routine maintenance.
How Are Potholes Repaired?
Before patching the pothole with new asphalt, the pothole needs to be cleaned out from any debris or broken pavement. After that, new asphalt is compacted into the hole. The compacting will help bond the new asphalt to the old. It will help seal the pavement against water getting back into it, hopefully keeping the area pothole-free for some time.
These repairs will help keep the pavement intact, but unfortunately, potholes will continue to appear due to the natural weathering. Thankfully, there are still a few things that can help prevent the formation of potholes!
How Can They Be Prevented?
The best way to prevent potholes is through routine maintenance and repairs; filling in the potholes while still small prevents them from getting bigger.
It's also helpful to do regular resurfacing of your pavement. This ensures a smooth lot which is more difficult for water to seep into to form large cracks and expand them into potholes.
Part of the strategy for avoiding potholes is to plan ahead when you're first laying pavement. Ensuring it's sealed properly and has a good drainage system is key for slowing the formation of potholes in the pavement.

Asphalt is a popular choice among homeowners for driveways due to its durability and cost-effectiveness. Many companies use recycled asphalt for the base layer, which is environmentally friendly and more affordable than fresh asphalt. These factors make asphalt the ideal material for your driveway.
You don’t need to worry about compromising the aesthetic appeal of your property as asphalt gives a seamless finish.
Asphalt is known to withstand harsh weather conditions and natural elements better than other materials and is less likely to get damaged easily.
It is an easy-to-manage option as it requires little maintenance and stays intact for extended periods.
This is one of the primary reasons why asphalt is a preferred choice among homeowners.
Asphalt is more flexible than concrete, making it less vulnerable to significant cracking.

"Asphalt overlay" or "Resurfacing" refers to paving asphalt on top of existing asphalt. It is generally done after comprehensively examining your current asphalt pavement for cracks, faults, or problem areas. If your pavement is in good condition, the top layer is removed for improved grip and a fresh layer of asphalt is laid on top. Sealing may be ideal if your existing asphalt is in good shape but needs renewal.
Cold mix asphalt is typically used in the off-season or for minor repairs. We employ hot mix asphalt most of the season for optimal results.
Asphalt aftercare requires you not to use or drive over it for 24-48 hours. The duration is longer for hotter seasons. It should be followed with the standard regular seal coating and resurfacing maintenance.
A homeowner can expect the driveway to last 30 years or longer if they use good products. Many projects can survive 40 to 50 years if properly maintained. Regular maintenance and vigilant care of your pavement or parking lot can considerably extend your property's life.
